1. Who we are
3 Degrees Legal (ABN 40 671 444 170) is a legal practice based in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. References to "we", "us" or "our" in this Privacy Notice are references to 3 Degrees Legal.
We are committed to handling personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), and we adopt these standards as a matter of good practice.

2. What this notice covers
This notice covers personal information we collect:
when you visit and use our website (www.3degreeslegal.com);
when you complete our Quick Start Check or client questionnaire;
when you engage us to provide legal services; and
when you contact us by email or phone.
It does not cover information collected by third-party websites linked from our website.
3. What information we collect
3.1 Website visitors
When you visit our website, we and our website platform provider (Squarespace) may automatically collect:
your IP address and approximate location;
your device type, browser type and operating system;
pages visited, time spent on pages and referring URLs; and
cookie identifiers (see Section 8 — Cookies).
This information is used to understand how the website is used and to improve the website experience. It is not used to identify you personally unless you have also provided us with contact information.
3.2 Contact form and direct enquiries
If you contact us through the website contact form or by email, we collect your name, email address, and any other information you choose to include in your message.
We use this information to respond to your enquiry. If you become a client, this information may be added to your client file.
If you do not proceed to engage us, we may retain your contact details to send you legal updates or information about our services. We will only do this with your consent, and you may opt out at any time.
3.3 Quick Start Check
When you complete the no-fee Quick Start Check for any of our services, we collect:
your name and contact details;
general information about your business (type, structure, approximate revenue range, online activities); and
your responses to initial suitability questions.
Completing the Quick Start Check does not create a solicitor-client relationship. The information you provide is used only to assess whether our services may be suitable for your business.
3.4 Client intake and legal services
If you engage us, we collect more detailed information as part of the engagement, including business name, ABN, entity structure, details about your products, services and customers, contact and communication records, and any other information needed to deliver the agreed services.
4. How we use your information
We use personal information we collect to:
respond to enquiries and assess suitability for our services;
deliver legal services under an engagement agreement;
issue invoices and process payments;
communicate with you about your matter;
improve our website and services;
comply with our legal and professional obligations; and
send you relevant updates or information about our services, if you have consented to receive them.
We will not use your personal information for direct marketing without your consent. You may withdraw consent at any time by contacting info@3degreeslegal.com.
5. Direct marketing
We may use your contact details to send you legal updates, product announcements or information about our services where you have consented to receive them.
You can opt out at any time by:
clicking the unsubscribe link in any marketing email; or
contacting us at info@3degreeslegal.com
We will action opt-out requests promptly. Opting out of marketing communications does not affect any other aspect of your engagement with us.
6. Third-party service providers
Our current service providers include:
Squarespace Inc. — website hosting and analytics (United States)
Microsoft Office 365 — email communication (United States)
Xero Limited — invoicing and accounting (New Zealand / United States)
Airtable Inc. — practice management and matter records (United States)
Calendly — appointment scheduling (United States, where applicable)
Form tool TBC — intake forms and Quick Start Check (United States)
Where our service providers are located overseas, your personal information may be transferred to and stored outside Australia. We take reasonable steps to ensure that overseas providers handle personal information in a manner consistent with the APPs.
7. Disclosure of personal information
We will not sell, rent or trade your personal information to third parties. We may disclose personal information to our service providers as described in Section 5, where required or authorised by law, to professional indemnity insurers or legal advisers where required, and with your consent.
8. How long we keep your information
For client files and matter records, we retain information for a minimum of seven years from the close of the matter, consistent with our obligations under the Legal Profession Uniform Law (NSW).
Website analytics data and enquiry records are retained for shorter periods unless the enquiry progresses to an engagement. When personal information is no longer required, we take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify it securely.
9. Cookies
Our website uses cookies to understand how visitors use the website, remember preferences across visits, and improve the website experience. Our website is hosted on Squarespace, which may set its own cookies for analytics and functionality.
You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings. We do not use cookies for targeted advertising.
10. How we protect your information

We will respond within a reasonable time and in accordance with the APPs. We do not charge a fee for making an access or correction request.

If you believe we have handled your personal information incorrectly, please contact us first at info@3degreeslegal.com. We will acknowledge your complaint and respond within 30 days.
